There is an Open Day - or rather open afternoon - on Friday, 13th February, 2009, starting at 1.30 p.m. This is the first big event of the School Centenary celebrations. For the pupils, it is not only a chance to dress up in the style of 1909, but a great opportunity to discover how things have changed over the past 100 years.
The top class have already had an opportunity to quiz Mrs Pyle, who taught at the school for many years, about what it was like in the "old days". Not surprisingly, many of the questions were about corporal punishment!
After half term, the historical theme will be coal. Although Greenside Pit closed over 40 years ago, there are still people around whose relatives or friends worked there, and - few and far between - some real miners. One of them, Mr Ronnie Ramshaw, will be coming to talk to pupils, and bringing his pick and lamp and other equipment to show.
If you would like to let us have any memories or reminiscences about Greenside Pit to put into the school's scrapbook, please get in touch.
